Smokers Feel the Squeeze

Cook County Commissioners raised the price of cigarettes by a dollar.

That increase brings the county tax to $2.

Add city, state and federal taxes and the total adds up to $4.05 a pack.

With the array of new taxes as well as recent and proposed smoking bans,
many smokers say they feel under siege.

Chicago Public Radio’s Sonari Glinton went to the Iwan Ries Tobacco store in the Loop to talk with smokers about feeling the squeeze.

He brings us this audio post card.
