Commissioner Calls for Federal Investigation of Jail Break

Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica says he wants federal authorities to investigate the recent county jail break.

Peraica is a Republican candidate for Cook County board president.

He says he doesn’t trust State’s Attorney Dick Devine to look into problems that led to the recent mishaps at the jail.

Peraica says he worries Devine won’t be able to fairly investigate the office of fellow Democrat, Sheriff Michael Sheahan.

Meanwhile, Board President John Stroger accused Peraica of trying to grab the political spotlight.

Stroger, a Democrat running for re-election, says the jail is under the jurisdiction of the sheriff.

He says the state’s attorney is the logical person to investigate problems at the jail.
