Blagojevich to Launch Re-Election Bid

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich will officially launch his campaign for re-election this weekend.

Blagojevich plans an eight-city, two-day tour of the state, starting in Springfield on Sunday.

Three days before he hits the campaign trail, Blagojevich hit the airwaves this morning with his first TV commercial.

Until now, Blagojevich had been evasive about his re-election plans and his opponents, claiming he’s too busy to talk about quote “politics.”

Today, campaign spokeman Doug Scofield defended Blagojevich’s decision to turn down debate requests from his primary opponent, former Chicago Ald. Edwin Eisendrath.

Scofield says after the governor launches his campaign, he’ll be too focused on state business to take time for a primary debate.

While Blagojevich has no plans to debate Eisendrath, Scofield says the governor’s prepared to debate his Republican opponent later this year.
