Illinois' Sixth District Race Heats Up

Illinois’ 6th district congressional race in Chicago’s west and northwest suburbs has recently broken into the national spotlight. Republican Henry Hyde’s dominated the district since he was first elected in 1974. This year, Hyde’s stepping down.

While the 6th has long been a Republican stronghold, growing immigrant populations, urban sprawl and more people voting Democratic have the parties convinced this year the district could go either way.

Hyde’s chosen Republican replacement is running unopposed. But on the Democratic side, voters are facing what could be a high-profile, high-stakes, three way primary.

Chicago Public Radio’s Ben Calhoun has been tracking the race and has this report.
