Jones Doesn't Want to Succeed Stroger

Illinois State Senate President Emil Jones says he is not interested in becoming Cook County Board President.

Jones was among a handful of names mentioned to take over the spot of current President John Stroger, who suffered a stroke in March.

But the Senate president says the job is not for him.

“You got folks trying to push me in to doing something. I got enough work to do in Springfield right now,” he laughs.

Stroger’s son Chicago Alderman Todd Stroger, Congressman Danny Davis and Cook County Commissioner Bobbie Steele have expressed interest in the presidency.

Meanwhile, the 77-year old Stroger returned to the hospital earlier Tuesday for further observation.
