Chicago Aldermen Draft Big Box Ordinance

The Chicago City Committee on Finance today is expected to draft a final version of the so-called “Big Box Ordinance.” It would require large retailers such as Wal-Mart and Lowes to pay higher wages and benefits to workers.

Mayor Richard Daley has not shown support for the proposal and proponent, Alderman Joe Moore says Daley needs to get on board.

“I think in this case, the mayor is not only wrong on policy, but on the wrong side of public opinion, but i think that ultimately he will come on board in support of this, because it’s the right thing to do,” he says.

Moore says over 80 percent of Chicagoans support the measure.
