Blago Accuses Topinka on Office Lease

Governor Rod Blagojevich’s re-election campaign says Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka paid more for office space to benefit a contributor to her campaign.

Blagojevich campaign spokesperson Sheila Nix says Topinka extended the lease on office space in Springfield without bidding on that extension.

She says there also was a large hike in the cost of the lease.

“It’s a contract expansion that was not bid. It’s a no-bid contract,” Nix charged.

“I think she’s held herself up to this standard of having no no-bid contract. She says it over and over and over again.”

Topinka says the original lease was indeed bid on.

She also says the contract was extended because it would have cost taxpayers more money for her to move office space.
