Thais in Chicago Celebrate Homeland Coup

About 50 Chicago Thais sang their country’s national anthem as they gathered outside the Thai consulate in Chicago last night, to show support for the military coup against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Sunanta Laddaglom has lived in Chicago 37 years and says it was time for Thaksin to go.

“We don’t want our country to go down because of Thaksin. He’s a bad guy. He’s a big liar, he’s corrupt, and he violates human rights,” she says.

The supporters were all wearing yellow, the color of the Thai royal family. The rebels declared their loyalty to the King yesterday, but he hasn’t declared support for them yet.
