Nation of Islam head Louis Farrakhan announced last month he was stepping down, temporarily, as leader of the religious movement due to a serious medical condition.
He said the group’s executive board would run the Nation on a daily basis while he was recovering from complications due to prostate cancer treatment.
His departure from public ministry has brought renewed attention to Farrakhan’s controversial legacy and raised questions about leadership succession in the organization.
