Daley: Rekindle Immigration Debate

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley is lamenting the recent failure of comprehensive immigration reform in the U.S. Congress.

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says the immigration issue hits close to home for the city.

He claims thousands of illegal immigrants have put down roots and pay local sales and real-estate taxes.

Daley says Congress should have made up its mind about their future.

Daley: And so the inaction of Washington, DC, puts a lot of fear into the immigrant community - What are they going to do? What do they do now? What is their status? And that’s really unfortunate. We can do things so quickly, why can’t we reach a compromise on this?

Daley today introduced leaders of the League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC (LOO-lack).

LULAC will hold a convention in Chicago next week that will tackle immigration reform and Hispanic education and civil rights.
