Protesters Rally at BP Station

A small group of protesters picketed in front of a British Petroleum gas station in Chicago on Saturday. The group is called Boycott BP. The protesters opposed BP’s decision to dump higher amounts of ammonia and other chemicals into Lake Michigan from its Indiana refinery. BP customer Joel Brownstein says the group’s argument is too one-sided.

BROWNSTEIN: I actually would like to know the facts, besides that they say they were going to be dumping toxic waste. I’d like to know, are they really breaking the laws? Is it really true? Are they dumping toxic waste into Lake Michigan? I mean just because someone says that doesn’t mean it’s true.

The demonstrators also ask motorists to sign a petition to stop buying from BP. The group says it collected over 200 signatures.
