Lake County Goes Batty

Lake County has found yet another bat with rabies. It’s the sixth rabid bat this year, doubling the amount discovered last year. Mike Adam is with the Lake County Health Department. He says there’s a lot of possible reasons for the bat increase.

ADAM: More people are aware of bats and the possiblity that they might have rabies, and so they are repeating them more frequently but there may other conditions like weather conditions that may be playing a role. We’re just not sure at this point.

Adam says in spite of the incidents, the Health Department warns people not to harm any bats they find. He says the creatures are important to the balance of the environment because they consume mosquitoes and many harmful incests.
