Red Line Truck Crash Probe Continues

Chicago police continue to investigate a crash that killed two people at a CTA Red Line station on Friday.

Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly why Donald Wells’ semi slammed into the Cermak-Chinatown station last week. They’re not ruling out foul play, even though so far, Wells has only been ticketed for negligent driving, which carries a maximum fine of $100.

Police want to put together a timeline for the days leading up to the crash, figuring out where Wells was, and who he met along the way. Another question they’re asking is why the driver’s truck didn’t contain the cargo he was supposed to deliver in Chicago.

The semi is being analyzed for evidence of mechanical failure, but drugs, alcohol, fatigue and the mental health of the driver are all being looked into as part of the ongoing investigation.
