Daley: Police Alone Can't Stop Violence

Mayor Richard Daley says there’s no way police alone can stop a recent wave of violence in Chicago. The mayor’s comments come one day after a toddler was shot in the city’s Gresham neighborhood.

DALEY: No, you can’t put a policeman in every family. It’s impossible. You couldn’t put a policeman in every family here. It’s impossible. No, you can’t do that. We have a society that we solve issues with guns. And that’s the sad thing.

Daley throws blame toward the gun industry, which he says “owns” the federal government. He also says the breakdown of personal relationships is a factor. Meantime, a spokesperson for University of Chicago Medical Center says the injured three-year-old is doing “very well.”
