Bulls Deny Collins is Hired

The Chicago Bulls are denying reports the team has hired a new head coach. That position’s been vacant since last month, when the team fired interim coach Jim Boylan.

Earlier today, the Website of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that former Bulls Coach Doug Collins had the head coach job. Bulls G.M. John Paxson then released a statement.

While confirming he’d talked with Collins about the position, Paxson says no agreement had been reached. He says Collins is focused on his work as a basketball analyst for cable channel TNT, and they’d talk again after the network’s playoff coverage ends.

Paxson also says he’ll “continue to talk to other candidates.”

Collins’ last go-around with the Bulls lasted three seasons during the ‘80s. Since then, Collins had coaching stints with Detroit and Washington.
