Tornado Watch in Effect for Much of Illinois, Northwest Indiana

A tornado watch is in effect for much of our listening area. Scattered thunderstorms are developing south and west of Chicago. Mark Ratzer is with the National Weather Service.

RATZER: These two areas of storms are kind of racing to the northeast at about 50 to 60 miles per hour, and we have an atmosphere today that has moderate instability and strong winds aloft so the potential for rotating storms, wind damage and even isolated tornadoes is there.

The watch is in effect until 6 p.m.
