Obama Rallies For Chicago Olympics

Members of Chicago’s Olympic delegation traveled to Washington D.C. today to rally support for the bid. President Barack Obama says he won’t be making a personal visit to Denmark to push Chicago’s case.

At an Olympic event hosted by the White House today, Obama said he’s too busy working on a health care plan to leave the country. The President says First Lady Michelle Obama will make the trip instead.

OBAMA: She’s going because she and I share the conviction that bringing the games to the United States isn’t just important to the city, but to the American people. And I’m confident that she and my senior adviser and director of the White House office of Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Sport Valerie Jarrett will represent the American people well.

The International Olympic Committee is scheduled to pick the 2016 host city on October 2nd. Chicago is up against Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, and Madrid.
