Congresswoman Melissa Bean Says Imposters Posing As Her on Facebook

Illinois Congresswoman Melissa Bean (D-8th) says imposters are posing as her on the social networking site Facebook.

BEAN: It came to our attention when various constituents were contacting my office saying ‘Is this really from Melissa, it doesn’t quite sound like her...’”

Bean says poor grammar used in messages tipped people off about the scam. She says at least three fake accounts were set up in her name.

BEAN: On one of them they were trying to say ‘Please send me money so I can help this orphanage that I’m visiting in Africa.’ It was something along those lines.

Bean says the Secret Service and Capitol Police are among the agencies investigating the case. She says they told her she isn’t the first and won’t be the last legislator targeted.
