Priest who Jumped Off Balcony Faces Charges

A southwest suburban priest who jumped off a church balcony is facing seven counts of sexual abuse and sexual assault.

The priest, Alejandro Flores, is accused of abusing a minor for five years. The Kane County State’s Attorney says Flores was a seminarian assigned to St. Mary’s Parish in West Chicago when the alleged abuse started in 2005. Last summer, he was ordained and was serving at Holy Family Parish in Shorewood.

Earlier this month, Flores jumped off the balcony of a boarded-up church while investigators were on their way to interview him. Police arrested him after his release from the hospital.

The bishop of the Joliet Diocese removed him from the parish after learning of the allegations, and called law enforcement.
