Census Team: Jobs Available

Chicago’s 2010 Census team says it wants 100,000 candidates to apply for jobs with the agency. But so far, they’re well below that target. That’s despite hundreds of available part-time jobs that will pay more than $18 per hour.

Congressman Luis Guitierrez represents Illinois’ 4th Congressional District.

GUITIERREZ: It’s in the best interest of every person in this country to participate in the 2010 census. And we cannot do that without people from our own community to get the work done

Census officials say less than 40 percent of the target number of applications have been received so far in Guitierrez’s district. They say workers are needed across the city including in Chicago’s lakefront high rises.

Census workers visit homes in their neighborhoods to follow up on unreturned census forms.
