Daley Criticizes Grade Fixing

A Chicago Sun-Times report finds more than 2,000 grades were boosted last year at Hyde Park Academy High School.

When asked about the report today, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley called the practice unacceptable.

DALEY: You’re cheating everybody. What do you want to give everybody Cs and Bs for who can’t read or write or function. They graduate from high school and they can’t get a job. So you’re cheating everybody.

On the other hand, more than a thousand grades at the school were lowered.

Daley says Chicago Public Schools doesn’t pressure teachers to change scores. And he says the district should investigate the incident to decide what disciplinary action should be taken.
