Chicago Mayor Richard Daley supports the Chicago Police Department’s plan to expand the use of Taser guns. Tasers have caused some deaths around the country, and that’s created debate over their safety. But Daley says Tasers are a safer alternative to guns.
DALEY: There’s a different between if I fire a bullet at you and it hits you, there’s a significant difference between that and a Taser. That doesn’t mean Tasers have some problems, but there’s a complete difference.
The police department plans to assign a Taser to every squad car. About 380 Tasers will be added to the department.
