Del Valle Calls for Close Watch on Campaign Donations

Chicago City Clerk Miguel Del Valle says candidates running for mayor should not accept cash from companies that do business with the city. He’s currently in the process of gathering the signatures needed to get on the February ballot. Del Valle says he knows of politicians who do favors for campaign donors, but won’t give examples.

DEL VALLE: We know that there is a connection between campaign contributions and, at times, favorable consideration, favorable treatment. And that’s what we need to get away from.

Del Valle won’t rule out taking campaign contributions from the unions representing city workers or from political action committees representing companies with city contracts. He says he has raised about $35,000 since he announced his mayoral candidacy.
