Alderman Finds No Problem With Chicago Policy To Toss Homeless Tents

Chicago North Side Ald. James Cappleman says the city should review why it is inconsistent about throwing away homeless people’s tents -- but that the policy allowing the practice is not a problem. Cappleman, whose ward once hosted perhaps the largest and most visible tent encampments in Chicago, said his bigger concern is to open more shelters in the city. WBEZ reported last week that Chicago police arbitrarily go after some homeless people to discard their tents, but have left others alone.
