Proportion of first-time home buyers is down

Chicago Magazine Deal Estate columnist Dennis Rodkin says the proportion of first-time home buyers is down from a year ago. The National Association of Realtors says this demographic made up 28% of purchases in May but had been 34% a year earlier. They had traditionally been about 40% of buyers, until the bust. Scott Newman of Newman Realty also contributes to the discussion. (Photo:Flickr/tejvanphotos)
