NPR reporter Kelly McEvers returns home

After covering Asia, the former Soviet Union and the Middle East for more than a decade, NPR reporter Kelly McEvers returned to her home this fall to start a new chapter in her reporting career--covering her own country. But the, now, national correspondent for NPR didn’t just start by covering her own country but her own small town of Lincoln Illinois, which typifies the towns in her new series that looks at the disappearing middle class. McEvers started her journalism career at the Chicago Tribune in 1997 before moving to Asia and today she speaks with us on the line from California’s High Desert to talk about the transition from covering trouble abroad to trouble at home.
