Overtime for IL Lawmakers

Illinois lawmakers weren't able to reach an agreement on a final budget last night so the game now goes into extra innings.

Today is the first day of an overtime spring legislative session that's expected to drag on for days, if not weeks.

That's disappointing news for many lawmakers, especially Democrats.

Even though they control both chambers of the General Assembly, they now have to get a two-thirds vote to pass any legislation.

That's music to the ears of Republicans who now have a chance to exercise greater influence over the final shape of bills and the budget.

Illinois Public Radio's Sean Crawford joins us from the Illinois State Capitol to talk more about how the game changes in Springfield.
