Illinois and the Energy Debate

If you're still reeling from high gas prices and bracing for your summer electric bill, you're not alone.

Rising energy prices and concerns over the environment and national security have ignited one of the biggest discussions of U.S energy policy in years.

That debate is playing out on Capitol Hill this week.

That's where the Senate is considering a controversial bill that aims to raise fuel economy standards and push for the use of renewable resources.

All sides seem to agree on the need for change.

But the big question remains: how?

And the outcome of that debate could have a major impact on everything from Illinois coal to Illinois corn.
