The Inner-City Muslim Action Network Takes It to the Streets

This Sunday, the bi-annual event “Takin It to the Streets” returns to the Marquette Park neighborhood on Chicago's southwest side. The free, all-day festival features community rallies, an international bazaar, games, activist workshops and musical performances, including one by Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco.

The event also marks the 10th anniversary of the Inner-City Muslim Action Network—also known as IMAN.

Rami Nashashibi is the executive director and a co-founder of the community activist group.

He spent most of his childhood in Europe and the Middle East, and arrived in the United States 17 years ago.

He says that his involvement in the Marquette Park community on the city's southwest side began as he was heading to Chicago's Cabrini Green housing project.
