How's the Housing Market?

Drive down virtually any street in the Chicago area these days and you'll see real estate signs sprouting like dandelions.

After all, summer is the heart of the home buying and selling season. But this season has been a difficult one for many.

Nationwide, the housing market is in it's worst slump in 16 years. And yesterday, the federal government released data that showed new home sales fell slightly last month.

But the picture in the Midwest is a bit murkier. That same data showed new home sales jumped a whopping 30 percent from April to May of this year.

So what's happening with the regional housing market? And what does all of this mean for buyers, sellers and renters?

For some answers we turn to Dennis Rodkin. He covers the real estate market for Chicago Magazine and joins us in studio.
