CHA Public Comment Period Ends

Last night, the Chicago Housing Authority closed the public comment period on a cluster of possible changes at the agency. Those new rules, including a work requirement and elimination of some tenant councils, come up for a vote on April 30th. Last week the agency scheduled two meetings with residents to explain the changes better, and try to calm some people's anxieties. We recently talked about the process with new CHA head Lewis Jordan. Then for another perspective, we sat down with Mary Johns. She's editor-in-chief of the Residents’ Journal, a publication written by and for CHA residents. She says she thinks CHA officials are still having trouble communicating their goals and policies to residents.
