Nine dead and 36 shootings. That's the bloody toll in Chicago from last weekend, according to the Associated Press. Officials with the Chicago Police Department, which declined to confirm the numbers Tuesday, say more cops will be pulled off desk duty to flood crime hot spots. Gangs are blamed for much of the violence, but some experts warn that explanation oversimplifies the problem. Greg Scott is an Associate Professor of Crime and Delinquency, Community Studies and Street Gangs at DePaul University, and he sheds some light on the uptick in violence.
