Cowbop's Route 66

From its starting point at the intersection of Jackson and Michigan Avenues in Chicago, the historic Route 66, as the song goes, “winds from Chicago to L.A.” The “Mother Road,” as it is still known, was actually decommissioned in 1985. And due to the fact that Jackson is now a one way street, anyone retracing the old route must now begin at Adams and Michigan.

Nonetheless, Route 66 is still a road that inspires adventure. California jazz guitarist Bruce Forman has a new compact disc titled Route 66. Tomorrow, along with his Cowbop band, Forman will begin his third cross country trip on the Mother Road. The tour is a benefit for a music mentoring program called the Jazz Masters Workshop. Forman recently talked with Eight Forty-Eight's Dan Bindert, and explained how he first became fascinated with the historic road.
