Cars vs. Public Transit

When people talk about green transportation, they might assume taking a bus or train is more environmentally friendly than driving. But what if it's not? What if driving a car is actually the greener option—and all the money taxpayers are investing in transit is for naught? CATO Institute scholar Randal O'Toole makes that argument in a recent paper published by the libertarian think tank. Eight Forty-Eight's Alison Cuddy recently spoke with O'Toole, who says car technology is improving much faster than trains and buses.
