Business Update

When some of us fall on financial hard times, we cut back on big-ticket purchases like, say, new passenger jets. But for some faltering airlines, that hasn't really been the case in part because they're replacing old gas-guzzlers with efficient new aircraft. Chicago-based Boeing says they're still getting orders for new planes, according to a Reuters report. But one plane that Boeing will not be making, at least for now, is an airborne tanker for the U.S. Air Force. They lost that contract in February. Boeing appealed the decision, and a ruling is expected next week. Boeing argues it would keep more jobs in the U.S. than rival Northrop Grumman would, and a new report out last week backs that up. Here with some analysis is Eight Forty-Eight's business contributor David Greising.
