Bill Ayers Confronts Media Storm

Bill Ayers Confronts Media Storm

(WBEZ/AndrewGill)

Few figures were more controversial during the recent presidential campaign than Bill Ayers, the well known scholar and professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

But it's his past as a co-founder of the radical anti-war group the Weather Underground that got him notoriety. The group took credit for a series of bombings, including at the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon to protest the Vietnam War. The government eventually dropped charges against Ayers, who for the past two decades has made his home in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood.

His relationship with Barack Obama recently brought him back to international attention. Chicago Public Radio's Steve Edwards talked with Ayers and brings us this conversation.
