Sales Tax Drama on the Cook County Board

(WBEZ/Tony Arnold)

Yesterday, Cook County commissioners voted to go over Board President Todd Stroger's head and cut the county's sales tax by half a percentage point. The debate over the sales tax has been going on for almost two years now. And yesterday's vote follows four attempts by commissioners to reduce the tax just this year. This is the first time commissioners had the votes to override Stroger's veto. WBEZ’s Tony Arnold has been following all the twists and turns in the county sales tax drama. He joins us to shed some light on the latest vote.
