Michael Abramsonmoved to Chicago 35 years ago to study photography at IIT's Institute of Design. He'd been there for about six months when his roommate suggested a good place to take pictures – a blues club called Pepper's Hideout on the near-south side. Two years and thousands of shutter snaps later, Abramson had documented the heck out of the 1970s black club scene. Tom Lunt is a co-founder of Numero Group, a company that specializes in digging up and putting out the soul, blues, funk and R&B that was locally produced. Lunt and Abramson have teamed up to produce the box set Light: On the South Side. It includes a book of Abramson's photography, and two LPs worth of the tunes playing on the jukeboxes when the pictures were taken. Richard Steele recently sat down with the two to discuss their joint project.
