Laszlo Moholy-Nagy might be considered a prototype for contemporary multi-media artists. He was a painter and photographer, filmmaker and typographer, and graphic designer. Moholy taught at the famed Bauhaus in Germany in the 1920s, but after the Nazis came to power, Moholy made his way to Holland, and then on to England. Moholy worked and taught in Chicago until his death from leukemia in 1946.
Carol Ehlers is the curator of the new exhibition Moholy: An Education of the Senses, currently up at the Loyola University Museum of Art. She says Chicago's economic base provided a unique setting for Moholy's creative ideas.
