State legislature passes new Charter school oversight

The state legislature added several new rules regarding the oversight of charter schools during this most recent legislative session. Three bills in particular add new rules that some say could limit charter autonomy. Things like requiring charters to provide bilingual education. Another bill comes in response to the troubles with the UNO charter schools, which were recently charged by the SEC for defrauding investors. Joining us now to discuss these bills is Andrew Broy, executive director of the Illinois Network of Charter Schools and Stacy Davis-Gates, legislative coordinator for the Chicago Teachers Union.
