The Takeaway’s “Community College Challenge”

The Takeaway’s “Community College Challenge”

Years ago, community college was seen as a way station on the road to a university. The thinking was: spend two years at a community college, get the pre-requisites out of the way and then transfer to a university. Community college was seen as almost a second class citizen in the world of higher education. But with the cost of higher education and college debt soaring, community college is viewed by many as the only choice these days. So how well has the institution adjusted to the new reality? That’s something the WNYC PRI radio show the Takeaway is exploring with its ongoing series Community College Challenge. The Takeaway has been broadcasting out of our WBEZ studios this week, so host John Hockenberry joined us to share some stories from the series.
