The romance novel Bombshell by Sarah Maclean is pictured on a bookshelf among colorful books. A woman in a Victorian dress is pictured on the cover, seductively lifting her dress up her leg.

Come for the hot romance, stay for the feminist friendships.

Nerdette Book Club: ‘Bombshell’

This month, the Nerdette Book Club takes on a romance novel for the very first time! Bombshell by Sarah MacLean is a steamy, feminist bodice ripper set in Victorian London. The story follows Sesily Talbot, a member of a secret gang of women that is intent on taking down the patriarchy one bad-behaving man at a time. When Sesily’s path keeps crossing with Caleb Calhoun, an American with very broad shoulders, sparks fly. It’s explosive in more ways than one (there are literal explosives). This romp may just convince you to appreciate the romance genre like never before!

We are joined by two romance lovers: Jessica Pryde, host of the Book Riot podcast When in Romance, and Tia Williams, author of several romance novels, including Seven Days in June.
