The Daybook: Illinois poverty rate climbs

This is what we are watching today in the WBEZ City Room:

  • New U.S. Census data shows Illinois’ poverty rate has gone from 10.7% in 2000 to 12.2% in 2008. We’ll be getting some reaction to this statistic today...but, also, how families deal with the current poverty rate. Federal standards set the rate at $21,200 for a family of four.
