This is what we are watching today in the WBEZ City Room:
- New U.S. Census data shows Illinois’ poverty rate has gone from 10.7% in 2000 to 12.2% in 2008. We’ll be getting some reaction to this statistic today...but, also, how families deal with the current poverty rate. Federal standards set the rate at $21,200 for a family of four.
- The group No Games Chicago is planning a protest this afternoon outside of Chicago’s City Hall. Let’s see you beat that, Kevin Lynch.
- Finally, Illinois Senate President John Cullerton begins a campaign talking about the state budget. Remember that? Yeah...we’ll see if that situation gets any better any time soon.
