University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, WBEZ Chicago and Chicago Sun-Times present mayoral candidate runoff forum with Brandon Johnson and Paul Vallas on March 30

CHICAGO (March 7, 2023) – The votes have been counted and Chicagoans have selected Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson and Former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas to face off in the city’s runoff election on April 4.

The University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, in partnership with WBEZ Chicago and the Chicago Sun-Times, will host a live candidate forum on Thursday, March 30 from 6-7 p.m. on the city’s South Side. Both Johnson and Vallas are confirmed to participate in the forum.

IOP/WBEZ/Sun-Times mayoral candidate runoff forum – Event details:

  • DATE: Thursday, March 30, 2023

  • TIME: 6-7 p.m. (live candidate forum); 7-7:30 p.m. (post-forum analysis)

  • LOCATION: Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St., Chicago, Ill. 60637 (on the University of Chicago’s campus in Hyde Park)

  • PARTICIPANTS: Mayoral candidates Brandon Johnson and Paul Vallas, in a forum moderated by WBEZ’s Sasha-Ann Simons

The forum will be moderated by WBEZ’s Sasha-Ann Simons, host of Reset with Sasha-Ann Simons. The questions asked of Johnson and Vallas during this forum will be crafted based on survey responses submitted on the People’s Agenda survey presented by WBEZ, the Sun-Times and the Institute of Politics.

Following the 60-minute forum, there will be a 30-minute panel featuring analysis with Chicago’s top political journalists and strategists.
