The city of Chicago announced a new program Monday to limit the amount of food waste that gets sent to area landfills. The Department of Streets and Sanitation has created 15 drop-off sites to collect food scraps from residents to turn into compost, the nutrient-rich remnants of decomposed organic material that can be added to soil.
