‘An impossible job’: Illinois DCFS comes under new leadership yet again amidst years of challenges

In the last eight years, the state’s Department of Children & Family Services has gone through 11 different leaders.

Illinois’ Department of Children and Family Services has faced challenges and reports of dysfunction for years – from failing to report cases of abuse in schools to reports of improper use of funds.

But the department has just come under new leadership, and could see its focus—and efficacy—change.
