Students and parents protest school closures

To bring attention to what organizers are calling an equality issue, the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization (KOCO) is holding a protest at Chicago Board of Education's headquarters, followed by a march to City Hall. They claim that the recent school closings have left many low-income children of color with no other choice but to cross gang lines to go to schools, among other grievances. Jitu Brown, Education Organizer for KOCO and National Director for the Journey for Justice Alliance, explains why CPS’ actions have negatively impacted these communities and what he hopes to achieve.
