You Can Now Get Your Masters In Refugee Studies
Earlier this week, President Donald Trump petitioned the Supreme Court to revive his travel ban. Two versions of it were blocked by federal judges. Both would bar all refugees from entering the country for 120 days. Meanwhile, on the local level, Mayor Emanuel has continued to reaffirm his pledge that Chicago is a sanctuary city. With so much discussion of refugees in the political arena in recent years—and especially recent months—perhaps it should come as no surprise there’s a renewed focus on the topic in our universities. At DePaul University, a new graduate program called Refugee and Forced Migration Studies aims to prepare students for careers in refugee resettlement.
Morning Shift talks to Shailja Sharma, associate professor of international studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and graduate student Addisalem Agegnehu, about what the program entails.
