African Hair Braiding is a tradition that goes back centuries, and yet, it’s up to the minute in terms of fashion. And an art project called BRAID/WORK is speaking to the history and aesthetics of handwork and to braiding culture. We’ll heard more about it from the two collaborators behind BRAID/WORK.
• Fatima Traore, Malian-American professional hair braider, teacher and entrepreneur, and
• Chicago-based artist Sarah Beth Woods.
Then, in memorium, we revisited host Richard Steele's 2013 conversation with Chicago soul vocalist Reginald Torian, Sr. He passed away earlier this week at the age of 65.
Finally, we heard an excerpt of Ayana Contreras' interview with Mr. Torian, as well as lots of music.
