A group of sex offenders in Illinois prisons is suing the state, alleging that Illinois law keeps them locked up after they’ve served their time due to a lack of state-approved housing for the offenders. Adele Nicholas is representing the inmates, one of whom is still being held in prison more than five years after completing his sentence. Nicholas said complex state laws are resulting in perfectly good housing being denied. She says under current law, the state can hold these inmates for as long as it sees fit.
